In the first post of this series (Why Am I Still Stuck), I shared information about why you might not be having the success you want in changing your life. I shared some surprising facts about how the human body-mind works. And I claimed that what makes profound, lasting change possible is knowing how to get around the limitations of the nonconscious. Equally important is how to make use of the vast storehouse of intelligence that resides there.

Think Energy and Everything Changes

OK, let’s start with something easy, E=mc2.

Do you remember Einstein’s famous equation from school days? In Einstein’s own words, what this means is: “Concerning matter, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses.”

Did you know that Einstein’s equation, which has been accepted in physics for 115 years, calculates that your body has the same amount of energy as 80,000 atomic bombs? That’s a helluva lot of energy packed in what we call “matter.”

So matter (physicality) is actually energy. And there’s a tremendous amount of energy, of power, sitting there waiting to be tapped.

Another esteemed physicist, Nikola Tesla, said “The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena (energy), it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.”

So what is it about energy? It seems it would be a darn good idea for us to get a better grasp on it.

MY STORY

Let me tell you a little story. So, I’m 28 years old, and for the past 2 years I have been investing a lot of time and energy into studying and exploring spirituality. In this moment I’m at the end of having taken a month off work to go away to seminary where I’m super focused studying, praying, meditating and contemplating what it is that is calling me in my life.

It’s not quite lunchtime, so I amble out to the garden and lay down on a bench to soak up the sun. I lay back on the bench and I close my eyes, and … I disappear. Bliss. Light. Whoa! After, I don’t know how long, I start to wonder, “Where am I? I’m here, more here than I’ve every been anywhere, but where am I? I don’t have a body. I don’t know where I start and stop. I’m here, but so is ‘all that is, has been, and ever will be.’ But there is no “thing” here, and yet no “thing” is missing.

It/I/We IS all knowledge, all power, all everything. Whoa …

But where am I? Where is the edge of me

<and then suddenly I’m back, laying on the bench, feeling the warmth of the sun, as if nothing had just happened. But my life is never again the same.

We Don’t Know Much More Than We Know About Life

I’m sharing this story because this and many other experiences have shown me directly that there is a whole lot more going on here than we know. You’ve probably had experiences that tell you this as well.

It told me that who I am, who you are, and who all the rest of us are, has no built-in limitation whatsoever. NONE.

And that the truth about us is that we are Whole, Perfect, & Complete.

But “real life” as we like to call it, seems to reflect limitation of all sorts back to us. And there must be some sort of limitation that you’re up against in your life which has brought you to this post. I’m glad you’re here.

Because the difficulties and struggles of life are in fact, “real.” But in most cases, the problem isn’t what we think it is. Instead, it lives in THE WAY WE SEE  who we are, what the problem is, what’s going on, etc. etc, which then dictates how we respond to it all.

We have to start from a different starting point, rather than keep trying harder and harder, continuing to do various versions of the same things that don’t work. Or at least they don’t work as well as we need them to.

So in order to bring this more into something tangible, let’s take a look at how we perceive life. Let’s get a little glimpse into how we go about experiencing life all day long.

While there’s a lot more to it, I’m going to keep this simple and stick with one of our physical 5 senses.

SEEING IS BELIEVING?

OK. I would like you to take a look around where you are right now, and select one specific object and just look at it. Take a moment and look at it. And just bring your attention to what that experience is like.

This is something we do ALL DAY LONG without giving it a second thought

You think you’re seeing that object. “Well, of course, I am, you fool … “ you’re probably thinking.

In fact, you are not. Now, stick with me on this. What’s happening is that there is light energy coming off of that object, it’s processed through the physical structures of your eyes. Then light energy is decoded and recoded into electrical energy by your retina. The electrical energy is sent to different parts of your brain where this electrical signal is processed and decoded differently by each part of the brain. The energy signals are compared to the information (energy) stored in the nonconscious to create meaning through comparing this signal with stored signals (memories, all energy). These various pieces of decoded information are assembled, again compared to stored energy in the nonconscious and shape, size, color, texture, lighting etc. is all assembled.

OH … and at some point the image is turned 180 degrees so that we don’t perceive the world “upside down”.

All those pieces are assembled together and presented to us as what we assume to be ‘the object.’ “It’s exactly what it is,” we think. But can you get a little sense that it’s not at all that simple.

Instead, it’s energy in various forms that’s decoded, processed, converted, recoded, decoded, checked against the databases, assembled, rechecked, and presented to us somehow projected on a screen somewhere “inside us.”

But it doesn’t end there. It’s not simply a visual image that’s presented, right? There’s also a name, words, meaning, associations, memories … these kinds of things. They were also a part of your experience of “seeing that object.” Probably also feelings, opinions, attitudes, etc.

This little example may seem unimportant, but I want to very simply demonstrate what is happening to us … constantly … without us even thinking about it.

Hopefully you can begin to appreciate that there is a lot going on in this one few second mini-slice of being alive – of simply seeing an object for just a few seconds.

So much more going on than you ever thought to begin to know about. That’s my first point.

It’s All Energy

The second point I want to bring out is that this whole process is all about coding, transmitting, processing, decoding, recoding, and assembling energy.

Energy in the forms of light, electricity, thought, stored information,  associated memories … even feelings, attitudes and opinions. It’s all energy. And it was all a part of us “seeing one object” for just a few seconds.

This is a little microcosmic example of how we experience every single little bit of our life. There are so many things that we just take for granted that are quite simply betraying us.

Because what happens when some parts, or maybe even many parts, of that complex process feed unhelpful, incorrect, old, outdated, unwanted, “didn’t know that was in there” kinds of information into that whole complicated process that is running on auto-pilot?

This automatic pilot mechanism keeps us from seeing what’s really going on. It makes it so that we can never get to actually solving the deeper, more ingrained, horribly frustrating kinds of problems and difficulties that we’re dealing with in our lives.

 We’re not in Kansas anymore.

All of our experience of life is the decoding of energy. And it goes through a LOT of steps. We think of the world and ourselves as physical things. Physical = Real.

That things, especially physical things, have inherent REALITY. It’s not that this is completely false, no. But there is SO MUCH ELSE that happens that we need to take into account.

Quantum physics, which was birthed all the way back in Einstein’s day, shows us that you can’t talk about things “out there” without considering the observer. Without considering what’s “in here”. Without considering us.

Do you remember in Session 1, talking about the nonconscious and what a ridiculously huge part of what we’re up to is happening, back there where we can’t see or know it?

I said that this is only a problem if: First – you don’t know it’s happening. We took care of that already. And second – if you don’t know how to deal with it.

Stay tuned, we’re going to address that in our next session.

In the next post, I’m going to combine the information on how the non-conscious works from the previous post with today’s understanding that everything is energy.

And you’ll begin to see how there could be so much more possible for you and your life by approaching your challenges from this new perspective.

Maybe those things you feel you need to get over, to deal with, to heal, to change, to conquer — maybe there’s a completely different way to look at the whole thing that does, indeed, open up worlds of possibility for you.

It’s not a maybe … There is!

Don’t stop now! Continue on with the next post in this series (How to FInd the Hidden Cause).
